there are now only three EV modes - EV, hybrid, battery hold. Charge mode is now gone...strange

also I have checked the manual to confirm the same thing

Weird. It's still there in Audi USA website for the 2017 e-tron. Maybe perhaps it's your e-tron? Also you can't run "Charge" mode if there is full charge in the battery.

I doubt they would remove that functionality unless there was an emissions issue with the extra fuel burn in that mode.

Its more likely your battery is fully charged already.

I'm in Canada and the charge mode is not available on my Etron, although it is mentioned on the Audi Canada Web Site. Maybe it becomes available when the battery is fully discharge, I'll check the next time it happens.

The battery doesn't have to be FULLY discharged to use the "Charge" mode (in 2016 models).

That would be a shame if they removed it. I've actually used it a few times when on long trips and I wanted a charge to drive EV at my next destination. Also, that Hyper-miler article (Wayne Miller?) showed some scenarios where it made sense to use it.

it is gone for sure!!!...I have tested it with 0 battery. There is NO mention of charge mode entirely in the 2017 manual

I have the Canadian version...no sure about US

Very strange....its a great feature that works really well. I use often enough....a few minutes down the highway and you are good to go in EV mode in the city.

Has the charge mode feature caused a problem in the previous models /technical issue or could it be an emissions issue with the higher fuel burn during charging - or something else? :?:
I think its a worthwhile feature to have.

I haven't heard of any "issues", I suspect it is merely a response to owner comments about the complexity of the car. 4 driving modes and 4 hybrid modes, among other things. While there are good uses for the charge mode, I'll bet that here in North America it is not used much, and Audi felt that its loss would not be significant for most buyers.

Did anyone get an answer as to why the charge mood was discontinued. Not that I feel that I really needed as my current driving situation allowed me to average 83 MPG overall

Are you guys for real that the charge mode is gone?! In the 2016 model, you could charge an empty battery to full with that setting. While it reduced mileage efficiency, it was a cool time to do it on the highway!

Gone...definitely not there on my new 2017

Anyone know why Charge Mode is gone in 2017? Is it possible that they just streamlined the menu so that when you goto 'Battery Hold' mode it does the same thing? Will this be updated with a software fix maybe?

Yep, "Charge Mode" is nowhere to be seen. Shame, since it was a selling point since being exiled from my a3 TDI.

I've seen mentions of a 'VCDS software' kit that allows you to access low level configuration in your Audi. It's options like this I bet you could enable, that would make me consider buying the kit..

anyone has a VCDS autoscan of module 9, 5F that they can post?

comparison between the 2016 and 2017 adpations/long codes is needed to find possibility to re-activate charge mode. the official VCDS software is not e-tron or GTE (both are related) friendly

any help?

I have just picked up my 2017 Premium model, and I am getting used to the different EV modes along with Audi Drive Select. I found the 'quickest' charging mode when driving is the hybrid mode and 'dynamic' on the Drive Select - I can really feel the regenerative braking and even a short 10 mile trip this morning charged the battery for 3 miles. However, I can't seem to get much charge driving in 'Comfort' or 'Auto' mode. Anyone know why this is? Thanks.
