Hello. I'm plugging into a regular 110 outlet and was using a regular decent extension cord which worked fine until I noticed that the plug in the wall was getting really hot. I'm trying to find out if any type of extension cord is safe, even though they recommend against it. When I called AUDI parts at my local dealership, they said as long as the cord matched the plug, it was okay -- which makes no sense.

I just purchased a 25 ft super thick cord: 15 amp, 125 volt, 1875 watt, 3-wire grounded. so far it doesn't heat up like the other cord.

Do you think this is safe? Can anybody suggest a better cord, or should I just not do this?
thanks, bradkes

The charger draws about 16 Amps. The extension cord should be 12 or 14 Gauge wire. Smaller number is better. The wire thickness is larger hence less resistance and less heat.
